I didn’t want to believe it was happening but when Aunty Celia became agitated and sometimes aggressive when we couldn’t understand what she wanted we knew it was time to get some help. My Mum, June was her twin and had moved in with Aunty Celia when her husband passed away 10 years ago. Both widows they relied on each other so much for friendship and company, and did everything together. When Aunty Celia was diagnosed with Frontotemporal Dementia we knew she needed more care than my Mum could give her, even with my help and other family members. We looked into many aged care facilities, but as my Mum had decided she wanted to move in as well to be close to her sister, we needed to find a place that suited both their needs. 18mths on, Aunty Celia now has high support needs and on most days doesn’t recognsie my Mum. My Mum though is close by, in relatively good health and sees her every day. She knows Celia is getting the best possible care and we both know this was the best decision. As for Mum, she has made so many new friends at Banksia. Loves the food and enjoys line dancing and book club. Thank you Banksia Care for helping our family.
